Psalm 100, 1-5 1) Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. 2) Worship the Lord with gladness, come before him with joyful songs. 3) Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his, we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. 4) Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise, give thanks to him and praise his name. 5) For the Lord is good and his love endures forever, his faithfulness continues through all generations.

THE FINDINGS OF THE BIG CANOE

FUIMAONO NA'OIA FERETI TUPUA

TRANSLATED BY EFTY

Where the name Manu Samoa came from.

A couple, Muamai and Mulimai journeyed from Fiji in days of old. They arrived in Faasaleleaga (Sava'ii is divided by 2 district's Itu Faasaleleaga and Itu Tane)at the village of Vaiafai and were received well by Chief Tagaloa Funefeai. The story goes that the couple had journeyed here with a bird in a cage. The couple met up with Tagaloa Funefeai in Vaiafai at a little cove called Utufiu,(Who at the time was in office for the district.) The couple's bird screeched and tried to flap its wings wanting to fly, (From here, we get the old samoan saying, The bird flapped it's wings wanting to fly at Utufiu. Ua sausau fia lele le manu na i Utufiu) where as Tagaloa advised them not to let their bird out of its cage or the Samoan bird's (manu Samoa) would kill it. However one day while sitting alone with her bird, the woman Mulimai watched as the Samoan birds flew overhead, she felt sorry for her bird, so she opened the cage and let the bird fly out without telling her husband. Moments later Muamai came and they both watched on as the Samoan birds ganged up together and killed their bird. Muamai became angry at his wife and said Mulimai should ask Muamai. This is the origin of another old saying (Fesili Mulimai ia Muamai) Apparently this is also the origin of where we get the name Manu Samoa from.
